Pastor Alan Yarbrough dreamed of planting a church in Selma, AL that would be a role model church that would look like the community. This role model Church would strive to become a church who was one people with one purpose, one in Christ and one in the Spirit. This dream became reality on May 7, 2000 when this church began in his living room with a group of 10 people. From the very beginning we were focused on reaching the un-churched and loving people just the way they were, where they were. The life-giving message of Jesus and the joyful life-filled services filled with the presence of God brought an immediate harvest of souls being saved and church growth within the first year. One of these souls was David Nichols, who after dedicating his life to the Lord, became a faithful member of the church. David grew in the love and wisdom of our Lord demonstrating this as he served compassionately and faithfully in several leadership roles in the church. David feeling the call on his life to be a pastor, and given his faithful commitment to the church, the church had no reluctancy in ordaining him. In all these events David ran a successful ministry called BridgeTenders, a selma born ministry that helps men and women who struggle with drug addiction get the help and support needed, by any means necessary through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. After serving in this ministry for almost a decade, Alan and David were eating breakfast one morning as they often did and felt God birthing the opportunity for David to become a full time pastor of Crosspoint Christian Church. Since then Pastor Alan after carrying the vision of Crosspoint Christian Church as senior pastor for more than two decades felt the Lord calling him to other evangelistic opportunities and decided it was time to pass the torch to Pastor David and allow him to carry on the vision of the church that the Lord had given him all those years ago. In all these events we have seen that vision ring true... Intimacy with God, Community with Insiders, Influence with Outsiders.
The purpose statement of Crosspoint Christian Church is derived from the words of Jesus to His followers. These words are known as the Great Commission.
“He said unto them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe…’ Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.”
Mark 16:15-20
“We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all energy, which so powerfully works in me.”
Colossians 1:28-29
1. “We proclaim Him” is Evangelism.
2. “Admonishing everyone” is Pastoral Care.
3. “Teaching everyone” is Discipleship.
4. “Present everyone perfect” is Ministry
Crosspoint Christian Church is a non-denominational local body of believers who strive to demonstrate God’s love on a daily basis. We often say “We are the perfect church for people who aren’t.” We celebrate the Lord through praise and worship, communicate God’s word through evangelism and missions, and have a heart for giving hope to the lost. We believe the Holy Scripture as embodied in both the Old and New Testaments to be our final authority in all matters of life and faith.
Here at Crosspoint we strive to make you feel welcomed and accepted. Please come as you are – you will find people wearing everything from jeans to coat and tie. We have a Praise and Worship Team that sings both contemporary worship songs as well as some of the old favorites. Sermons are relevant and Christ centered. After the service, we invite you to go meet our pastor, and enjoy the company of our church family.
